Alzheimer's
A
progressive brain disorder that gradually destroys a person's
memory and ability to learn, reason, make judgments, communicate
and carry out daily activities. It is the most common form
of dementia.
Dementia
A
deterioration of intellectual faculties e.g. memory, concentration
and judgment resulting from an organic disease or disorder
of the brain and often accompanied by emotional disturbances
and personality changes.
Sundowning
A
state of increased agitation, activity, and negative behavior
that develops late in the day and through the evening hours.
Respite
Care
Short-term,
temporary care provided to people with disabilities in order
that their families can take a break from the daily routine
of caregiving. Unlike child care, respite services may sometimes
involve overnight care for an extended period of time.
